A loose map of planned content

GM Grove is built solely by me, RefresherTowel, in my spare time. This page shows direction, current priorities, and ideas that may change as the site grows. My work tends to follow what feels most useful, most urgent, or most teachable next, so items can be removed or reprioritized as I see fit.

Support the roadmap

Help the roadmap bloom

Every lesson takes a lot of time to write, test, polish, and explain properly. Support lets me plan more cool lessons and features for the roadmap and make the planned ones happen sooner!

Support

One-time donations and monthly support help me spend more dedicated time building new lessons and improving the site.

Growing now

The current crop

These are the parts of GM Grove getting the most attention right now.

New Course: Fundamentals of Code II (beginner path)

The second entry in the Fundamentals of Code series.

New Course: Debugging in GM (beginner path)

A course on how to effectively debug your GameMaker projects as a beginner.

Sprouting soon

Seedlings

What I'm thinking about next.

New Course: Let's Make 'Pong'! (beginner path)

Build a simple version of the classic arcade game.

Intermediate Path

Courses for people who already know the basics and are looking to build more complex projects.

Maps & Movement Path

Courses about building, connecting and moving through tile-based worlds.

Seed tray

Ideas that may sprout later

These are loose ideas. Some may grow, some may change shape, and some may get folded into other work. Donations or monthly subscriptions really help these bigger ideas come to life quicker!

Site Login System

A simple login system for the site, so progress can be saved across browsers and devices instead of only on your current device.

Interactive Grove

A place to use the XP and levels you earn by completing lessons, courses and paths. Grow and tend a virtual grove, with new plants and decorations unlocked by engaging with the site.

Community-based Tutorials

Allowing users to create and share their own tutorials, with a rating system to surface the best ones. This would be a big project, and would require a lot of thought around moderation, incentives, and how to integrate it with the existing content.
